Why Have A Dedicated Homeschool Email?
If you have been homeschooling for any amount of time, you have probably signed up for an email somewhere along the way (here?) and gotten emails from them a couple of times a week.
I recommend having a separate email address for those emails. This way you don’t have to
Need more reasons why you should have a dedicated homeschool email?
One of the great things about using your email to help keep track of things is that you never have to worry about losing everything on a crashed computer.
Google Classroom
Having just all things Google Classroom in your email is going to save you from missing something. As your child completes assignments you’ll get emails and you don’t want to miss them in with your day-to-day emails.
Digital Record Keeping
How do you submit your information, such as educational plans, and progress reports to your school board or governing body?
I send emails. Using our dedicated email address for our homeschool reports keeps everything in one place in case I need it again.
Do you take pictures of your kids doing school? Their projects and experiments? Set up a private Instagram account with your homeschool email address. You don’t have to let anyone know about it, or you can share it with family and friends.
Digital Homeschool Curriculum
Using your dedicated homeschool email address to buy digital curriculum which is where your sign-up information will land can save you a lot of headaches and search down the road.
Use it to buy physical curriculum so you have all your receipts in one email.
You can create folders in your email to keep track of everything.
Recommended Email
I recommend using Gmail so you can easily use Google Classroom.
You can make your email whatever you want, have you named your homeschool? That could be your email address. There are other benefits to naming your homeschool besides an email address.
Benefits to Naming Your Homeschool
- May meet a legal requirement if your state law stipulates you name your homeschool
- You have a name to put on a diploma and on transcripts
- Creates a sense of belonging – tee shirts for each child with your school name!
- May reflect your personality or values
- Feels official (and may or may not be actually official – depending on where you live)
- Kids and young adults can list their school name on job applications, college, and scholarship apps, etc.
