Homemade Can of Cream Soup

You are craving a chicken casserole, you think you’ve got everything you need. You have everything out on the counter. You’re following along with the recipe and then you see instructions calling for you to add one can of cream of chicken over the chicken. Huh, when did the can of cream of chicken enter the ingredient list? No worries, you have this recipe already made up in your cupboard, and it only takes minutes to have ready. Lucky right?

I haven’t bought a can of cream of anything in two years. Life has been so much easier, cheaper, and healthier.

A big bag of powdered milk, is well, big. I don’t use it for anything other than to make this, but this bag is good for more than a year. So it will get used up.

What you need:

Cream of Soup Mix

How to make Homemade Can of Cream Soup:

Mix all the ingredients. I mix it up in a large Rubbermaid container so it gets mixed well.

I then store it in jars. Mason jars, old spaghetti sauce jars. Reusing!

Instead of buying cream of chicken soup, why not make up this bulk batch to always have on hand? It is easy to do, and you'll love it!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup chicken or beef or even vegetable bullion
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp onion powder

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients. I mix it up in a large Rubbermaid container so it gets mixed well and stays air tight.

    To Use:

To use you take 1/3 cup of the dry soup mix and mix with 1 1/4 cups of water in a small pot/sauce pan. Bring it to a boil, reduce to a simmer until it thickens.

This is all I have been using for two years now, no more running out to get a can, or not making something because you don’t have it on hand. It might take five minutes and then you are back to cooking.

It also would make a tasty light soup for eating as is.

So you’ll have no more craving a recipe and not being able to make it because you don’t have a can of cream of chicken, or mushrooms.
