Socialization With Other Homeschooling Families

Homeschooling does not have to be an island. There are homeschoolers everywhere, you just might not be able to pick them out. There are a lot of ways to hang out with other families with little effort. Homeschool socialization isn’t a big deal when you think about the ways your kids are already out in the world.

Socialization With Other Homeschooling Families

One of the drawbacks of homeschooling is the possible concern that your child is not socialized in the same way that they may be in a public school system.

As a homeschooling parent, you are dealing with lots of pressure – the quality of your child’s education rests entirely on you, after all – and are probably dealing with many questions of your own.

One good way to address this is to get together with other homeschooling parents.

  • hanging out on a regular basis with other homeschooling parents, you’ll be able to exchange ideas and have some social interaction with other parents who are in the same homeschool space as you
  • your child will get a chance to interact with other homeschoolers

Homeschool Socialization: Study Topics Together

If another family is also teaching a biology unit, for example, you could suggest that the children work on planting a garden together on your property.

When studying zoology, a trip to the zoo would be enjoyable and educational for both you and your children when conducted with another family.

By exchanging ideas with other homeschooling parents you can learn new teaching strategies, and at the same time, your will not only share the weight of teaching your kids, but it can be a way to form amazing friendships.

Where to Meet Other Homeschool Families

My favorite way to meet new families when we have moved to a new area as been on Facebook. A search on Facebook for homeschool + your area should give you a local group.

We have met other families at both the playground and science centers when we have gone during school hours.
