We have lived in super cold areas, but that has never stopped us from going for a walk. When you go for a walk in the winter, you have to have hot chocolate when you get home to warm up right? That’s why hot chocolate and read-alouds go together. Grab a book and warm up!

Hot Chocolate and Read-Alouds
You have heard of poetry tea time, right? Why not hot chocolate and read-alouds? This one is more our style.
We have a great routine down in our homeschool right now, one we have fallen into each year without thinking about it. After we have finished our math and any other bookwork we go for a walk.
Think of this as physical education if you’d like, or a way to relax after doing work, either is fine. It’s nice to get some fresh air and break up the day a little.
During most of the school year though, those walks can be a little cool. Hot chocolate is a great way to warm up when you get home.
While you and your kids sit down to drink some delicious hot chocolate why not grab a book to enjoy together? It doesn’t have to be a novel, it could be a picture book. Or, and this is could be even better, why not turn on an audiobook? That way you can listen to the book and enjoy your hot chocolate too.

Looking for something to read to your kids while sipping hot chocolate? Why not combine this time with a great unit study? We recommend Wizard’s & Wands (Harry Potter themed) and the Greek Heros and Myths (based on the Percy Jackson series).
When it’s cold outside and you need a little something warm to drink, hot chocolate is a perfect choice. And what goes better with hot chocolate than a good book? Snuggling up with a blanket, a mug of hot chocolate, and a great book is a perfect way to spend time together.
This year, make your hot chocolate even more special by adding in a read-aloud session with your favorite book. Snuggle up with your kiddo and enjoy some quality time together while enjoying a delicious treat.
You don’t have to only drink hot chocolate and read a book after going for a walk. You can do this whenever it fits into your schedule. Maybe your kids would rather start their day with some hot chocolate while you drink coffee.
Sometimes it’s easier to do read-alouds first thing in the morning. Personally, the thing I like about doing hot chocolate and read-alouds together is that it brings us all together. Everyone sits down at the table, dining room, or coffee table, and drinks their hot chocolate together. Why not take advantage of it, and enjoy a book?
