How Alexa Can Help Your Homeschool

How Alexa can help in your homeschool? There are quite a few different ways. Over the past few weeks, I have been using Alexa more and more to give us a boost in our day as we get back in the swing of things. Make things a little easier on yourself using the tech that is already in your home.

How Alexa Can Help Your Homeschool

Jokes

Are things a little tense in your homeschool today? Lessons might have been rough, and you need to do something to break the mood and get a little silly. Ask Alexa to tell a joke. You can ask for math jokes, holiday jokes, or whatever you might need.

Weather

Alexa can tell you the weather. Great for science, for planning for the day. If you do calendar work in your homeschool, Alexa can be your best friend keeping you on the right day of the week, and am updating the weather part of your calendar.

News

Personally, I am not a fan of the news. But Alexa can easily give you the news for any area. As your children have gotten older, their interest in the news and the world around them increases. Here are a few tips on How to Use Current Events in Your Homeschool.

Grab your Alexa!

We have the Echo dot and love it, but there are several options if you don’t have an Echo yet.

Question of the Day

Every day, Question of the Day poses a new trivia question for you to respond to, from arts and entertainment to literature and science. Question of the Day is a great way to both test and improve your cultural literacy. Collect points and hear how others have answered.

Enable by saying, ‘‘Alexa, ask Question of the Day.’

Time Commands

“…Set a timer for _________”, “…set an alarm for _________”

Timed tests? Quiet reading time? Exercising? Practicing piano? Baking something? Just say, “Alexa, set a timer for 20 minutes” or, “Alexa, set an alarm for 2:15 pm” and you’re all set.

Background News

You can ask Alexa to play or to loop, various ambient sounds like:

  • Rain
  • Thunderstorms
  • Beach
  • Babbling Brook
  • Waterfall
  • Fireplace
  • White Noise
  • Sleep and Relaxation Sounds
  • Oscillating Fan

This Day in History

Find out about the historical events that happened on this day and every other day of the year. Curated by the History Channel.

Dance Party

Nothing brightens your mood like turning the music on and dancing around. It can take the edge off of a rough lesson. You don’t need Amazon music to listen to music but you definitely get a lot more choices with it.

Animal Workout

If you need a “brain break,” a way to get the wiggles out, or just a quick reset to your day, Animal Workout will do the trick! Kids are told to become different animals while getting exercise. Alexa will offer up encouraging words as they go along to also boost motivation and confidence.

How Alexa Can Help When you Don’t Know All the Answers

Alexa is like a talking Google. She can answer just about anything and that includes math questions.

As a homeschool teacher, you’re not expected to know the answer to everything, but you are expected to be able to help your child find those answers. Now you can say “Alexa, homeschool my child”.
