RightStart Math Levels G and H Review
Learn middle school mathematics hands-on and visually using a geometric approach. With a drawing board, T-square, triangles, compass, and goniometer, the student explores fractions, area, ratios, angles, Pythagorean theorem, and square roots. Circles, pi, arcs, along with reflections, rotations, and symmetry are taught all the while practicing arithmetic, fractions, and decimals. Some algebraic concepts are introduced.
The history of mathematics is woven throughout the lessons. Daily card games are included in the lessons. Students work independently. No prior work with RightStart Math is necessary to complete this level.
What Comes with these Levels
- the solutions – a parenting must have!
Who are RightStart Math Levels G and H for?
The short and simple answer is Levels G and H are for for middle school aged students.
The reason that RightStart Math uses is levels instead of grades so that your child can begin at the proper level and advance at their own pace. This helps prevent you from feeling like you need to rush your child along to keep them at their “grade level”.
RightStart is a teacher-intensive, manipulative-heavy program, loosely based on Montessori principles. Each level has a required workbook, but most of the teaching is in the teacher’s manual, and lots of one-on-one teaching is required.
There is a lesson book and solution book for you, which is an example of how parent intensive it is. However, your child is going to know their math with this curriculum. And it’s a great way to work one on one with your child. I like to work with each of them one on one and have some subjects together.
Levels G and H Internet Activities
I just found this clicking around on their website today. They have internet activities for RS2 Levels G and H, and for Level G of the First Edition.
These activities are broken down into the levels in which you use them. For Level G these are lessons later in the curriculum, and throughout the curriculum for Level H.
Super Saver Option
RightStart also offers a Super Saver option that provides a more pared-down set of manipulatives. With this option, you’ll need to print and prep several more materials, though, too.
I know how hard it can be to pick the right curriculum for your kids. And sometimes, one curriculum isn’t going to work for all your kids. Kids just gotta keep you on your toes!
